APISC Announcement – Major Redevelopment of the Pits
APISC first began running social netball and Futsal competitions in the F1 Pit Buildings in 1996. Over the past 30 years, this venue has been our home and the place where more than 200,000 games of netball and futsal have been played. It has served our community incredibly well — but after three decades, it’s time for a major upgrade.
We’re excited to share that a complete redevelopment of the Pit Buildings has now been approved and will begin immediately after the 2026 Australian Grand Prix.
A New Era: The Pits and Community Sports Hub
The existing buildings will be demolished and replaced with a state of the art facility designed for both the Formula 1 Grand Prix and the community that calls the venue home. The new design places equal importance on community sport as it does on the event.
The new facility will include:
• 7 full size netball/Futsal courts
• Competition standard run offs
• 7 metre high ceilings
• Capacity to host basketball, volleyball and badminton
• A café with indoor and outdoor seating
Construction is expected to take approximately two years, with completion scheduled before the 2028 Grand Prix. Social sport will return from April 2028.
Outside the Grand Prix period, the venue will be managed by the State Sport Centres Trust, and we are working closely with them to ensure community social sport remains a priority for access and programming. (Nitin, ideally we would like to mention here that we are working with you to become a long time licence holder, however have left it out at this point until got your advice)
